UI swimming pool death under investigation as police probe suspected murder of teenage boy in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of an unidentified teenage boy discovered at the swimming pool of the University of Ibadan in Ibadan on Saturday.

The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the case is being treated as a suspected murder, following disturbing findings at the scene.

According to Ayanlade, detectives who visited the location observed bloodstains within the pavilion area, while the victim’s body showed blood oozing from the mouth and nose, along with slight bruises.

He said the police received initial information from the university’s Chief Security Officer, who reported that the body of the boy, estimated to be between 14 and 15 years old, was found floating on the surface of the pool on March 26.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the body had been removed from the pool and placed beside it before the arrival of law enforcement officers.

Personal items believed to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were recovered near the scene.

The victim was subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital Adeoyo, where he was confirmed dead on arrival and deposited in the mortuary.

The UI swimming pool death has raised concerns within the university community, as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
