Ademola Lookman injury update as Atletico Madrid forward races to be fit for Champions League semi-final against Arsenal after picking up discomfort

Atletico Madrid forward Ademola Lookman is facing a race against time to be fit for the UEFA Champions League semi-final clash against Arsenal after being ruled out of Wednesday’s La Liga fixture against Elche as a precautionary measure.

Ademola’s injury comes after Atletico Madrid confirmed that the Super Eagles attacker finished Saturday’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad carrying discomfort, prompting concerns within the club’s medical team.

Atletico Madrid’s medical department has placed Lookman on an individualised training programme away from the main squad as they seek to avoid aggravating the issue ahead of a crucial European fixture.

“Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sorloth finished the Copa del Rey final with discomfort.

The club’s medical services have carried out tests that advise maximum caution to avoid the risk of injury, so they will follow an individualised plan in the coming days, working outside the group,” the club stated.

The Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal is scheduled for next Wednesday at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, a match Atletico Madrid view as pivotal in their season.

Lookman, 28, has been in strong form since joining from Atalanta in the winter transfer window, registering seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances across all competitions, including a strike in the Copa del Rey final.
