Jose Mourinho, Portuguese football manager and former Real Madrid head coach, is set for a sensational return to the Santiago Bernabeu after Benfica confirmed his departure in a €15 million compensation agreement on Tuesday.

The agreement will see the Lisbon club receive €15 million in compensation, finalising a deal that has been widely anticipated across European football circles.

Real Madrid also confirmed internal changes on the same day, announcing the departure of Alvaro Arbeloa, who had been serving as interim head coach since January following the exit of Xabi Alonso, who later joined Chelsea.

Benfica have already moved quickly to secure a replacement, appointing Marco Silva on a two-year contract with an option for a further year.
