Illbliss Lagos land ownership row triggers backlash online after rapper’s comments on land ownership and Igbo investments in Lagos spark outrage

Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has been drawn into a furious online controversy following a heated exchange on X concerning Igbo investments and land ownership in Lagos State.

The dispute began after Illbliss defended the economic contributions of the Igbo community to Lagos, arguing that they have played a significant role in commerce and real estate development across the state.

In his post, the rapper insisted that Igbo entrepreneurs have made substantial investments in property and business, while questioning why their involvement continues to attract criticism.

“The Igbos have contributed immensely to the Lagos economy! Commerce wise! If you have a problem with it, hug a frigging transformer!!! We have made massive investments in real estate too!! Other tribes have contributed too. Why is it always a problem when it’s the Igbos? Why?” he wrote.

The exchange escalated sharply after a user, identified as @IgeOlusayo47761, responded with a provocative message dismissing the rapper’s comments and accusing him of disrespect towards Lagos.

Shortly afterwards, Illbliss was alleged to have issued a now-deleted response that intensified the controversy. In the alleged post, he reportedly claimed ownership of land assets and suggested long-term rental dominance in Lagos, a statement that immediately triggered widespread criticism across social media.

The alleged comment quickly became a flashpoint in the ongoing Lagos Land Ownership Row, with users accusing the rapper of making explosive remarks capable of inflaming ethnic sensitivities in an already delicate public discourse.

Several X users condemned the tone of the exchange, describing it as irresponsible and potentially divisive. One user argued that the rapper’s remarks amounted to poor public relations, while another warned that such statements could deepen tensions between Lagos residents and members of the Igbo community.

Critics also questioned Illbliss’s judgment, noting that public figures carry influence and should avoid statements that could be interpreted as inflammatory or dismissive of other groups.

The backlash intensified further after an old podcast clip of Illbliss resurfaced online, in which he spoke about internal discrimination within parts of the South-East. In the clip, he alleged that people from certain states and communities within Igboland are sometimes excluded from opportunities based on origin.

The resurfaced footage has since been used by critics to highlight perceived inconsistencies in his public commentary, with some accusing him of double standards in his recent remarks about Lagos land ownership and earlier statements on internal ethnic practices.

As of press time, Illbliss has not issued a formal clarification on the alleged deleted post, while the debate continues to trend across social media platforms, reflecting the sensitivity surrounding identity, land, and economic participation in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
