Eddie Howe leaves Newcastle after discussions with club officials as the Magpies begin searching for a successor following key player departures

Eddie Howe has left his position as Newcastle United manager following discussions with the club’s hierarchy, bringing an end to his tenure after a period of significant change at St James’ Park.

The decision comes after a difficult summer transfer window for the Magpies, with several important members of the squad departing and uncertainty surrounding the future direction of the team ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Howe’s exit follows the departures of midfielder Sandro Tonali and forward Anthony Gordon, who moved to Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona respectively.

There is also continued speculation over captain Bruno Guimarães, who has been linked with a potential move to Arsenal.

According to reports from Sky Sports, concerns over the evolving squad and the club’s transfer strategy contributed to Howe’s decision to step away from the role.

During the summer window, Newcastle have added young talent to their squad, signing 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim for £42 million, 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax for £23 million and 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £18.5 million.

However, the club also missed out on Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, who opted to join Aston Villa instead.

The departure marks the end of a significant chapter under Howe, who played a key role in Newcastle’s resurgence following his appointment in 2021.

He guided the club back into European competition and helped establish Newcastle among the Premier League’s more competitive sides.

Newcastle have already begun the search for a successor, with sporting director Ross Wilson and chief executive David Hopkinson understood to be considering several candidates for the position.
