David Alaba has a verbal agreement with Udinese after leaving Real Madrid, with formal steps still needed before a Here We Go

David Alaba has reached a verbal agreement to join Udinese as a free agent, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano.

The Austria captain, 34, left Real Madrid when his contract expired at the end of last season. He has been without a club since, after a five-year spell at the Bernabeu that followed his long career at Bayern Munich. Romano said Udinese now have a spoken deal with the defender and called the move a dream signing for the Italian club. Formal steps, including paperwork and a medical, are still required before a completed transfer. “Formal steps needed ahead of the here we go,” Romano wrote.

Alaba, whose father is Nigerian, would join a Udinese side sitting 13th in Serie A after one win in five league matches.

The Friuli club is not due back in action until 12 October, away to Torino. He has not been named in Austria’s latest Nations League squad.

If the deal is signed, Alaba would share a dressing room with Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who joined Udinese in August 2023 on a four-year contract.

The move would give the former Madrid and Bayern defender regular football in a European league rather than a late switch outside the continent.

Until medicals are passed and a contract is published, the transfer remains an agreement in principle, not a completed signing.
