Abia Governor Alex Otti approves the appointment of Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as Enyimba coach in a decisive rebuilding move

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, has approved the appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the new head coach of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, in a move aimed at restoring the club’s competitive dominance.

The approval was announced on Monday by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who said the decision reflects the administration’s determination to reposition the club for renewed success on the domestic and continental stage.

Enyimba International Football Club is Nigeria’s most decorated football side and one of Abia State’s most recognisable sporting institutions across Africa.

The club is a two-time CAF Champions League winner and a multiple-time Nigerian league champion, achievements that have historically projected the state on the continental football map.

In recent seasons, however, Enyimba has struggled to maintain its traditional standards of excellence, prompting calls for structural and technical renewal.

Speaking on the appointment, Prince Okey Kanu said the Otti administration was committed to restoring Enyimba’s status as a dominant force in African football while strengthening professionalism and corporate governance within the club.

“The appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is part of our strategic efforts to reinvigorate the technical direction of the club, strengthen its competitive edge, and lay a solid foundation for long-term success,” Kanu said.

Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is an experienced football tactician who holds CAF A, B and C coaching licences.

He has previously worked as a head coach and technical adviser with several clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, where he recorded notable results.

His credentials include the Nigeria National League Best Coach Award in 2025, a recognition that underscores his technical capacity and leadership qualities.

Governor Otti, according to the statement, expressed confidence that the coach’s experience, discipline and technical expertise would play a critical role in Enyimba’s rebuilding process.

The appointment is widely seen as a decisive step by the Abia State Government to revive Enyimba’s fortunes and return the club to its historic position as a powerhouse of Nigerian and African football.
