Arsene Wenger warns after Arsenal lose 3-2 to Manchester United at Emirates, highlighting defensive issues and over-reliance on corners

Arsene Wenger, former Arsenal manager, has raised concerns following Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Emirates Stadium, London, on Sunday, January 25.

The loss ended the Gunners’ 13-game unbeaten run across all competitions and intensified scrutiny on their Premier League title ambitions.

Manchester United took the lead in the 50th minute through Danish forward Patrick Dorgu, overturning Arsenal’s early advantage from a Lisandro Martínez own goal in the 29th minute.

Bryan Mbeumo equalised for the Red Devils, while Mikel Merino briefly restored parity in the 84th minute.

Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha’s long-range strike in the 87th minute sealed the win for Michael Carrick’s side.

Wenger attributed Arsenal’s defeat to tactical rigidity and defensive vulnerability.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, he said, “When you concede three goals at home it is difficult to win. Arsenal relied too heavily on set pieces, and the cohesion in open play was lacking. The Red Devils demonstrated technical balance and defensive stability that we did not match.”

The French manager praised Carrick’s impact on Manchester United, noting how the Red Devils executed a disciplined approach that unsettled Arsenal’s backline.

Wenger highlighted the unusual nervousness of Arsenal’s centre-backs, a key factor in the late defeat.

Despite the loss, Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League table with 50 points from 23 matches, four ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

The result, however, increases pressure on Mikel Arteta to address defensive frailties and tactical over-reliance on set plays.
