William Troost-Ekong wins first trophy with Al Ahli SC after penalty shootout victory in UAE-Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has secured his first trophy with Qatari club Al Ahli following their dramatic victory over Al Jazira in the UAE-Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup on Sunday, January 25.

The match, held at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, ended 4–3 in a penalty shootout after a tense draw in regulation time.

Although Troost-Ekong did not feature in the game, the win marks a significant milestone in his career following his move from Saudi Arabia’s Al Kholood to Al Ahli.

The 32-year-old defender signed a contract with Al Ahli SC running until June 2028, joining one of Qatar’s leading clubs.

Troost-Ekong brings a wealth of experience from his stints in European football, including Watford and Fenerbahçe, and is expected to bolster the Qatari side’s defensive line and leadership on the pitch.

Al Ahli’s triumph signals the club’s intent to challenge for regional honours this season, with Troost-Ekong poised to play a key role in their domestic and continental campaigns.
