Amuwo Odofin fire breaks out at Lagos industrial estate; Lagos State Fire Service responds as thick smoke and flames engulf multiple structures

A massive fire erupted on Saturday evening at the Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate in Mile 2, Lagos, prompting immediate action from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) and other emergency responders.

The LSFRS confirmed the Amuwo Odofin fire via its official X account around 8:30 PM, assuring the public that personnel were actively managing the situation.

“We’re assuring the public that we’re currently on top of the situation as the public need not to exercise fear,” the agency stated.

Eyewitnesses reported thick plumes of smoke and visible flames engulfing multiple structures within the industrial estate, which houses manufacturing, warehousing, and small-to-medium enterprises.

Social media videos showed the blaze spreading rapidly, highlighting the fire’s intensity.

As of late evening, the cause of the Amuwo Odofin fire remained under investigation, with authorities yet to determine whether it originated from an electrical fault, industrial accident, or other hazards common to Lagos industrial zones.

No casualties or injuries had been reported immediately, though the full scale of property damage was still being assessed.

LSFRS, led by Controller General Margaret Adeseye, mobilized units from nearby stations in Festac and Surulere to contain the inferno and prevent further escalation.

The agency emphasised the commitment of its personnel to safeguard lives and property.

Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate has a history of fire incidents due to factors such as flammable material storage, outdated electrical infrastructure, and gas-related accidents in manufacturing facilities.

This latest outbreak continues a recurring pattern of industrial fires in Lagos, underscoring ongoing challenges of urban density, overcrowding, and safety compliance despite improved emergency response capabilities.
