Singer Market fire Kano engulfed no fewer than 25 temporary shops and 19 stores in the early hours of Monday, causing millions of naira in losses, the Kano State Fire Service has confirmed.

Public Relations Officer Saminu Abdullahi disclosed on Tuesday that the blaze began around 5:00 a.m., following a distress call from Mubarak Muhammad reporting the emergency.

Firefighters, led by Director Sani Anas, rushed to the scene and found a one-floor building, Alhaji Abdulmunafi Yunusa House, ablaze.

The fire consumed 25 temporary shops at the front of the building and 19 stores on the upper floor. Despite the inferno, firefighters successfully saved 24 other stores on the upper floor and all stores on the ground floor.

Abdullahi explained that the rescue operation was hampered by poor road access caused by incorrectly parked trailers, complicating efforts to contain the blaze.

The fire was suspected to have originated from a faulty electrical connection in one of the temporary shops.

The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents and business owners to ensure proper electrical installations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This is the latest in a series of fire incidents in Nigeria. Earlier this month, a blaze destroyed the Abu Badmus petrol station at Ago-Omoluabi community in Oyo State, though no casualties were reported.
