A fire outbreak in Kano’s Kumbotso LGA destroyed three homes and an electricity transformer, with emergency teams containing the blaze

A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of three residential buildings and an electricity transformer site in the Gaida area near Fatima Bread, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at approximately 11:05 a.m., according to the Kano State Fire Service.

The emergency was reported by resident Aminu Bello, prompting immediate deployment of firefighters from the agency’s headquarters and teams from Sharada and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations.

“Upon arrival, our personnel found an open space measuring about 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, completely engulfed in flames,” the agency stated.

The blaze quickly spread to nearby residential structures.

Witnesses described intense flames consuming parts of the buildings before emergency responders brought the situation under control.

The first building, a small residential structure, was severely affected, while a one-storey second building suffered extensive damage, particularly on the upper floor.

The third building, also residential, was similarly impacted.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire was caused by an electrical spark.

Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to prioritise safety measures.

“We advise members of the public to take all necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks, especially by avoiding unsafe electrical practices and ensuring proper handling of appliances,” he said.

Authorities have not reported any casualties.

Investigations into the full extent of the damage are ongoing, with the Fire Service reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and calling on residents to remain vigilant and report emergencies promptly.
