BUA Cement youth empowerment initiative trains 60 Sokoto youths in heavy-duty equipment operation, offering monthly stipends and career-building opportunities

BUA Cement youth empowerment efforts received a major boost with the launch of a six-month vocational training programme for 60 young men and women from Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Flagged off over the weekend, the initiative targets skill development in heavy-duty earth-moving equipment operation — a critical competence in the cement, mining, and construction industries.

At the launch event, BUA Cement Managing Director Yusuf Binji, represented by Bashir Aminu, said the programme was conceived to address the skills gap among local job seekers.

“Many roles in our operations remain vacant due to a shortage of technical skills among locals. This training is our solution  a pathway for local youths to access jobs in BUA and beyond,” he said.

Each trainee will receive a ₦150,000 monthly stipend, reinforcing the company’s commitment to both technical training and welfare support.

Director of Human Resources, Abdulrosheed Bode, encouraged participants to take the programme seriously. “You earned your spot through merit. Now prove you’re ready for growth,” he charged.

A beneficiary, Attahiru Ladan, expressed deep gratitude to BUA Cement and community leaders. “This is more than a training — it’s a life-changing opportunity,” he said.

The BUA Cement youth empowerment programme is a cornerstone of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, aimed at promoting sustainable development, tackling unemployment, and fostering stronger ties with host communities.
