McFarlane steps in following the departure of Enzo Maresca and will oversee the side for a second consecutive match.

The youth coach led Chelsea during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

Speaking at a media briefing at Cobham on Monday, McFarlane addressed the ongoing transition at the club.

His comments came shortly after Chelsea announced Liam Rosenior as the club’s new head coach.

“I spoke to Liam briefly last night, and he’s really excited to take the role,” McFarlane said.

“It was a brief conversation. I understand he will be at Cobham later today, so I’ll catch up with him then.”

McFarlane confirmed he has been tasked with leading the team against Fulham.

“I’ve been told I am leading the game tomorrow. We will try to do the best job and give him three points to build on,” he added.

Chelsea’s visit to Craven Cottage will be McFarlane’s final match in temporary charge before Rosenior formally begins work with the squad.
