Super Eagles striker Akor Adams dedicated his goal to his mother following Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round-of-16 match in Fes, Morocco, on Monday.

The 25-year-old, who also assisted Ademola Lookman’s opening goal, opened his tournament goal account in the 70th minute.

Adams played a key role in Nigeria’s second goal, which was converted by Victor Osimhen, completing the team’s commanding performance.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, Adams revealed that his mother, who was meant to attend the game, had been hospitalised earlier in the day.

“Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal, like many of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mum,” Adams told journalists.

“She’s supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”

The goal takes Adams’ record for Nigeria to three goals and three assists in eight appearances.

He made his Super Eagles debut in October 2025 during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, marking it with a goal in the 2–1 win over Lesotho.
