Renee Slegers praises Chiamaka Nnadozie after her standout performance in Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal Women in the WSL

Arsenal Women manager Renee Slegers has praised Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie following a commanding performance in Brighton’s 1-1 draw with the Gunners in the Women’s Super League at the Broadfield Stadium on Wednesday.

The match saw Brighton take the lead just before half-time through Fuka Tsunoda before Arsenal Women responded in the second half with an equaliser from Frida Maanum to secure a hard-fought point.

Nnadozie was central to Brighton’s resilience, delivering a series of decisive saves that helped the Seagulls extend their unbeaten run in the league to five matches, their longest streak since the 2011-12 season.

The Nigerian goalkeeper produced a standout fingertip save to deny Caitlin Foord and reacted sharply to stop Lotte Wubben-Moy from a set-piece situation, underlining her growing influence in the team.

Although Arsenal introduced attacking options such as Alessia Russo and Stina Blackstenius, Brighton remained disciplined at the back, with Nnadozie providing stability and confidence throughout the encounter.

Speaking after the match, Slegers acknowledged the difficulty Arsenal faced breaking down Brighton’s structure and highlighted the goalkeeper’s impact.

“Brighton consistently approaches the game with great conviction and intensity,” Slegers told the BBC. “There were chances to exploit the space behind, but Nnadozie also excelled in defending that area, requiring a high level of detail and execution.”

The performance adds to a growing reputation for Nnadozie, who has been instrumental in Brighton’s impressive defensive record during their recent unbeaten run.
