Chiamaka Nnadozie shortlisted for the 2025 IFFHS Women’s World Best Goalkeeper award, the only African nominee among the world’s elite

Chiamaka Nnadozie has been shortlisted for the 2025 International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s World Best Goalkeeper award, placing her among the ten finest shot-stoppers in global football.

The Super Falcons goalkeeper, who plies her trade with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League, is the only African nominated for the prestigious honour.

Nnadozie faces fierce competition from some of the sport’s biggest names, including Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger (Gotham FC), Spain’s Cata Coll (Barcelona), England’s Hannah Hampton (Chelsea), and Chile’s Christiane Endler (Lyon).

Others on the elite shortlist are Daphne van Domselaar (Netherlands/Arsenal), Katharine Tapia (Colombia/Palmeiras), Lorena Leite (Brazil/Kansas Current), Phallon Tullis-Joyce (USA/Manchester United), and Jennifer Falk (Sweden/Häcken).

Established in 1987, the IFFHS awards recognise the best performers in football each year, based on votes from journalists and analysts across more than 120 countries.

The 2025 winners will be announced in December, alongside official rankings for players, coaches, referees, and goalkeepers.

Nnadozie’s nomination caps an outstanding year for the 24-year-old, whose agility, leadership, and commanding presence between the posts have drawn global praise.

Since joining Brighton, she has become one of the standout performers in the WSL, earning multiple accolades and recognition for her performances.

Earlier this month, Chiamaka Nnadozie was nominated for the Barclays WSL Save of the Month (October) following a stunning stop from Tottenham’s Eveliina Summanen.

She also lifted the Best Goalkeeper award at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, helping Nigeria to another strong continental showing.

Her stellar form saw her make history as the first Nigerian and African woman shortlisted for the Women’s Yachine Trophy, where she finished fourth in September.

She is also in contention to win the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for a record-extending third time.

If successful at the IFFHS awards, Nnadozie would become the first African woman ever to win the World Best Goalkeeper title — a milestone achievement that would further cement her place among the game’s elite.
