Edo Assembly Clerk Audu Omogbai has been summoned over alleged age falsification and exceeding mandatory years in service

Edo Assembly Clerk Audu Omogbai has been invited by the Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission for questioning over allegations of age falsification and overstaying in service.

The invitation followed a petition filed by some concerned Assembly staff who accused Omogbai of altering his official age to remain in office beyond the statutory retirement period.

According to the petition, Omogbai’s appointment dates back to 1993, suggesting that he may have exceeded both the mandatory 30 years of service and the 60-year retirement age.

“The clerk has allegedly withheld official file records, hindering investigations into these matters,” the petition stated. “We humbly request the Commission’s intervention to maintain integrity and adherence to regulations within the Edo State House of Assembly.”

In response, the Assembly Service Commission, chaired by Ezehi Igbas, issued a formal summons requesting Omogbai to appear before a three-man ad-hoc committee to address the allegations.

Efforts by our correspondent to obtain Omogbai’s comments were unsuccessful, as he was unreachable at the time of filing this report.

The Edo Assembly Clerk probe has sparked debate among legislative staff, with some calling for transparency and strict enforcement of civil service rules.
