Ekiti PDP campaign expresses confidence that Dr Wole Oluyede will overcome legal hurdles and contest the June 20 governorship election

The Ekiti PDP campaign has expressed confidence that its governorship candidate, Dr Wole Oluyede, will overcome ongoing legal hurdles and contest the June 20, 2026 election.

The Director-General of the Wole Oluyede Campaign Council, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, said the party remained undeterred despite a Federal High Court judgment that nullified the PDP primary which produced Oluyede and directed a fresh exercise.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti by the campaign’s Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Ogundipe said the PDP and its candidate had filed an application for a stay of execution and lodged an appeal against the ruling.

He said the legal steps taken ensured that the campaign would proceed without hindrance while awaiting the outcome of the appeal.

“Dr Oluyede convincingly won the PDP primary election. Although that victory was challenged by an aggrieved aspirant and nullified by a lower court, the party’s candidate will ultimately prevail,” Ogundipe said.

The campaign dismissed suggestions that the PDP was incapable of fielding a candidate, describing such claims as premature and misleading.

Ogundipe described the governorship election as a direct contest between the people of Ekiti, represented by Oluyede, and the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress.

He urged PDP members and supporters to remain united and focused, assuring them that the legal issues would be resolved in the party’s favour.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had excluded Oluyede’s name from the list of candidates cleared for the election following the court judgment.

However, the PDP and Oluyede have also approached the court to compel INEC to include his name on the ballot.

The PDP alleged that the APC was behind attempts to edge opposition contenders out of the race, an accusation the APC denied.

The APC Publicity Secretary in Ekiti State, Segun Dipe, said it was not in his party’s interest for any candidate to be disqualified, insisting that the APC preferred a full contest.

Other candidates in the election include former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, and Olusegun Osinkolu of the Young People’s Party.
