Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has tipped Portugal to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the European side as strong contenders ahead of their upcoming friendly clash.

Portugal, who will compete in the tournament across Canada, Mexico and the United States, are chasing their first-ever World Cup title despite boasting a highly talented squad widely regarded among the favourites.

The Portuguese national team has continued to attract global attention for its depth, experience and emerging young stars, with many pundits also backing them for success.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the friendly, Chelle praised Roberto Martínez’s side and suggested they have what it takes to go all the way.

“This team, in one month, can be the next world champion. This is a big chance for us to play against Portugal in their country,” Chelle said.

His comments come as anticipation builds around the friendly encounter, which is expected to test both sides ahead of major international commitments.
