Fenerbahce have completed the signing of France midfielder Ngolo Kante from Al-Ittihad, crediting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s support

French midfielder Ngolo Kante has completed a move to Fenerbahce from Saudi club Al-Ittihad, the Turkish side announced on Wednesday.

Fenerbahce said the transfer was finalised with the support of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The World Cup winner, who turns 35 next month, had been close to joining the Istanbul club earlier.

The deal reportedly stalled due to an administrative error.

The length of Kante’s contract was not disclosed.

However, the move offers the midfielder a chance to push for a place in France’s World Cup finals squad.

“Our club has successfully completed the transfer of N’Golo Kante, a prominent figure in world football,” Fenerbahce president Sadettin Saran said.

He thanked President Erdogan for his “significant support” in ensuring the deal’s successful conclusion.

Erdogan was in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, marking his first visit to the country in over two years.

Kante has won the Premier League twice, lifting the title with Leicester City in 2016 and Chelsea in 2017.

Fenerbahce have also signed fellow France midfielder Matteo Guendouzi during the winter transfer window.

The 19-time Turkish champions trail Galatasaray by three points in the title race.

They face Nottingham Forest in the Europa League knockout play-off later this month.
