Flying Eagles defeat Saudi Arabia 3-2 in Chile to boost U-20 World Cup hopes, with Daniel Bameyi scoring a late penalty winner

The Flying Eagles defeated Saudi Arabia 3-2 in an enthralling Group F contest at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Talca, Chile, on Friday morning, boosting their chances of advancing to the Round of 16.

Midfielder Nasiru Salihu opened Nigeria’s account in the 10th minute, but Saudi Arabia drew level through Amar Alyuhaybi in the 21st minute.

Amos Ochoche restored the lead for the seven-time African champions with a strike shortly before half-time.

Talal Haji equalised for the Asians six minutes into the second half, but Nigeria snatched all three points in stoppage time when captain Daniel Bameyi converted a dramatic penalty.

The victory puts the two-time World Cup finalists in a strong position to qualify from Group F. A positive result against Colombia in their final group match on Sunday will guarantee their place in the Round of 16.
