FRSC road safety education Nigeria took centre stage as the Oyo State Sector Command marked the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary with an inter-school quiz competition, aimed at nurturing a generation of safety-conscious Nigerians.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in partnership with Hallelujah Divine Height Organisation, hosted the event on October 1, 2025, drawing participation from secondary school students across Oyo State.

According to a statement posted on the Corps’ official X handle, the quiz was designed to test and expand students’ knowledge on road safety, civic duties, and national awareness, while encouraging discipline, teamwork, and social responsibility.

“The event brought together brilliant young minds to showcase their knowledge on road safety, civic responsibility, and national awareness,” the statement said.

Oyo Sector Commander, Corps Commander RUK Alo, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to building road safety consciousness from an early age.

He stated that consistent school engagements remain vital to reducing road traffic incidents among young Nigerians.

Representatives from other critical agencies — including the NSCDC, NDLEA, and Rescuer Organisation — also participated, educating students on topics ranging from substance abuse to emergency response and civic engagement.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and prizes to top-performing schools and participants.

All students were urged to become road safety ambassadors within their schools, homes, and communities.

This initiative forms part of the FRSC’s expanded Catch Them Young programme, which seeks to address alarming statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Between 2020 and 2024, more than 40% of road accident victims in Nigeria were youths aged 10–29, underlining the urgent need for targeted road safety education.

As Nigeria reflects on 65 years of independence, the FRSC’s strategy underscores a proactive and preventive approach to road safety — one built on education, early engagement, and empowering the next generation to make safer choices.
