Galatasaray Ademola Lookman transfer bid on loan was rejected by Atalanta, as Fenerbahce also push to sign the Nigerian forward before Turkey’s deadline

Galatasaray Ademola Lookman transfer hopes were dashed after head coach Okan Buruk confirmed Atalanta rejected their loan proposal for the Nigerian forward during the summer window.

The Turkish champions, eager to bolster their attack ahead of their European campaign, had identified Lookman as a prime target. But Atalanta made it clear they would not sanction a temporary exit.

“We were interested in Lookman,” Buruk told Now Spor.
“We thought we could set up a deal similar to Osimhen’s last year. But Atalanta were very clear: they would never accept to let him go on loan.”

With Europe’s top leagues closed for transfers since September 1, Turkish clubs still have until September 12 to conclude deals. This leaves the door open, with Fenerbahce reportedly offering a four-year contract worth €6m per season to lure Lookman to Istanbul.

Reports claim Fenerbahce explored a package worth €55m, though no formal bid has been submitted. Atalanta, however, remain firm, insisting the 27-year-old will only leave on a permanent deal worth over €50m.

Lookman’s situation has been turbulent, having trained alone after protesting Atalanta’s rejection of an approach from Inter Milan earlier this summer.

Unless a breakthrough occurs before Turkey’s deadline, the Super Eagles forward is expected to remain in Bergamo until at least January.
