Galaxy Backbone ICT provider role reaffirmed by Nigeria’s FG to drive data sovereignty, digital transformation, and secure MDA services

Galaxy Backbone ICT provider mandate has been reaffirmed by the Federal Government through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, positioning it as the official Information and Communications Technology provider for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Chidi Okpala, said the move underscores government’s commitment to leveraging the National Information Communications Technology Infrastructure Backbone for improved service delivery across MDAs.

“This directive, in line with Nigeria’s first policy, endorses the use of GBB as the designated provider of ICT infrastructure for MDAs, covering IP-network services, data centre hosting, and related infrastructure solutions,” Okpala explained.

He noted that Galaxy Backbone was created to ensure data sovereignty by running a centralized e-government platform that guarantees secure connectivity and ICT services.

Over the years, the firm has secured multiple international certifications, affirming its capacity as a world-class and reliable technology provider.

With this renewed backing, Galaxy Backbone is now officially positioned as the government’s data exchange platform and the interoperability layer for the nation’s Digital Public Infrastructure.

This means GBB will manage and integrate federal digital services to align with national data sovereignty objectives.

Okpala further urged government institutions currently hosting data abroad to migrate to GBB’s platforms, assuring them of **enhanced security, reliability, and global best practice compliance**.

Managing Director of GBB, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, pledged that the company was “repositioned to enhance quality, reliability, and innovation,” stressing its commitment to listening to MDAs and offering tailored digital infrastructure solutions.

“Our pledge is to listen, collaborate, and provide solutions that keep Nigeria’s data safe within our borders,” Adeyanju said. “This renewed collaboration will accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation and contribute directly to national economic growth.”
