The announcement came shortly after the conclusion of the 12th State Executive Council meeting of 2025 and was confirmed via a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Tersoo Kula.

The statement directed all outgoing commissioners to hand over immediately to their respective permanent secretaries. The move ends the tenure of the officials who have served alongside Governor Hyacinth Alia for the past two years.

“No one is being pushed out. Rather, space is being created for others to serve,” Kula stated, emphasizing that the move was an opportunity for more citizens to contribute to Benue’s development.

The biggest shake-up came with the replacement of the Chief of Staff, Mr. Paul Biam. In his place, Governor Alia appointed Mr. Moses Atagher, a respected legal practitioner and former two-term Attorney General of the state.

Atagher, who also served as acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, is expected to bring administrative depth to the governor’s inner circle.

Speaking on behalf of the dissolved cabinet, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Bemsen Mnyim, thanked Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve, describing the experience as “a school” and a period of learning.

Though no official reason was given for the sweeping Governor Alia cabinet dissolution, analysts believe the move is part of a broader strategy to reenergize the administration as it enters the second half of its tenure.
