Peter Obi 2027 election plans remain intact as ADC confirms waiver, allowing him and El-Rufai to stay in their parties amid growing opposition coalition

Peter Obi 2027 election ambitions remain firmly rooted in the Labour Party, despite growing speculation over his ties with the newly strengthened African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a clarifying statement, Bolaji Abdullahi, the interim National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, confirmed that both Peter Obi and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have been granted waivers to stay in their respective political parties while engaging with the broader opposition coalition ahead of 2027.

This follows earlier comments by interim ADC Chairman David Mark, who warned party members against anti-party activities, vowing “zero tolerance” for indiscipline.

However, Obi’s camp quickly dismissed any confusion over his political loyalty.

“Our principal has made it clear from the beginning he remains a Labour man,” said Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide.

Abdullahi backed Tanko’s statement, adding that the waiver was necessary because many of Obi and El-Rufai’s supporters had already obtained nomination forms in their legacy parties.

“We cannot ask them to defect. It will affect their support structures,” he said.

Meanwhile, Obi’s media aide, Umar Ibrahim, discredited *viral statements claiming the former governor had rejoined the PDP or accepted a post in the ADC.

“Peter Obi has been clear in his position and would not accept false attributions just to satisfy anyone’s agenda,” he said.

As 2027 approaches, Obi remains focused on his broader mission to build “a new Nigeria of our dreams”, while navigating coalition politics on his own terms.

His media office reiterated that all official statements will come from verified channels and urged the public to disregard fake news.
