Liverpool striker Alexander Isak said in Liverpool on Friday, 18 September 2026, that the £125 million move from Newcastle United to Liverpool was an “easy decision”, with the club’s stature, ambition and determination to sign the Sweden international persuading Alexander Isak that Anfield was the right next step.

Speaking to BBC Sport’s The Football Interview, Alexander Isak said Liverpool’s identity was an important factor in his decision.

“Liverpool is a massive club, and everything about the club made it pretty clear,” Alexander Isak said.

“The club’s ambition and the club’s will to get me in as well. It was a big part of it.”

The decision came after a complicated final period at Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak had expressed a desire to leave during the summer of 2025 and missed Newcastle’s opening three Premier League matches.

“But on the other hand, when you’re in a good place and when you feel good, you don’t really tend to look back because it doesn’t really benefit you.”
