Bayer Leverkusen beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in the German Cup last 16, with Ibrahim Maza scoring the decisive goal. Quarter-finals set

Bayer Leverkusen booked their spot in the German Cup quarter-finals after defeating Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in the last 16 on Tuesday.

Ibrahim Maza’s 34th-minute strike proved decisive, giving Leverkusen instant revenge for Dortmund’s 2-1 Bundesliga win over them three days prior.

“This victory is huge for us,” Leverkusen coach commented. “Maza was outstanding, and the team showed great discipline.”

Maza, who scored in Leverkusen’s 2-0 Champions League win over Manchester City, danced through Dortmund’s defence before blasting home the opener.

The 20-year-old also set up a second goal for Martin Terrier on the hour mark, but it was ruled out for a narrow offside.

Dortmund had an early penalty claim waved away after Jarell Quansah brought down Carney Chukwuemeka in the box. Late in stoppage time, Karim Adeyemi’s header narrowly missed, leaving Dortmund eliminated.

Quarter-Finalists: Leverkusen will be joined by RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin, and St Pauli.

RB Leipzig came from behind to beat Magdeburg 3-1, with Christoph Baumgartner scoring twice, assisted by Antonio Nusa.

Magdeburg had taken the lead via a Silas Gnaka penalty but could not hold on.

St Pauli broke a nine-game league losing streak with a 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, thanks to Martijn Kaars and Louis Oppie.

Hertha Berlin thrashed 2024 finalists Kaiserslautern 6-1, with 16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn becoming the youngest scorer in German Cup history.

Bayern Munich, 20-time winners, face Union Berlin on Wednesday, while defending champions Stuttgart travel to Bochum.
