Marc Skinner leaves Manchester United Women by mutual agreement, ending a four-year spell that included the club’s first major trophy

Manchester United have confirmed that Marc Skinner has left his position as head coach of the club’s women’s team by mutual agreement, just a month before the start of the 2026-27 Women’s Super League season.

The club announced Skinner’s departure in a statement released on Monday, 3 August 2026, bringing an end to his four-year tenure at Old Trafford.

Skinner took charge of Manchester United Women in 2021 and guided the team through one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, including winning the Women’s FA Cup in 2024, the first major trophy since the women’s side was re-established.

“Marc Skinner has departed his role as head coach of Manchester United Women by mutual agreement,” the club said.

“Marc leaves having made a significant contribution to the continued progress of Manchester United Women.”

His exit comes after Manchester United finished fourth in the Women’s Super League last season, ending the campaign 15 points behind champions Manchester City.

The timing of the departure leaves the club with limited time to appoint a successor before the new league campaign gets underway.

Manchester United Women are scheduled to begin their 2026-27 Women’s Super League season away to London City Lionesses on 4 September.

During his time in charge, Skinner oversaw the development of several key players and helped establish Manchester United as regular contenders in domestic competitions. His FA Cup success in 2024 remains a landmark achievement for the club.

The reasons behind the mutual decision to part ways were not disclosed, and Manchester United have yet to announce plans for appointing a new head coach.
