Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi killing triggers outrage in Anambra. State govt vows justice for fish dealer as police intensify manhunt for killers

Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi killing has ignited public anger and renewed calls for improved security in Anambra State, following the brutal abduction and murder of the prominent fish dealer.

The late Onyekesi, known as the owner of Fish Magnet and one of the largest fish merchants in Awka, was reportedly abducted from his home by gunmen, shot in the leg, and later found dead in Amawbia, despite his family allegedly paying a ransom.

Responding to the growing uproar, the Anambra State Government has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

During a condolence visit to the bereaved family, State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, assured Onyekesi’s grieving mother, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi also the Woman Leader of APGA that justice would be pursued relentlessly.

“This is a dastardly act, and nobody will get away with this in Anambra State,” Mefor declared.

He described the Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi killing as a “heart-wrenching affront” to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security reforms.

Mefor emphasized that the police have recovered the vehicle used in the abduction and are actively tracking suspects.

He also highlighted the success of Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-Achi, two security outfits launched under Soludo’s administration on February 18, 2025, to counter criminal activity.

“The new security architecture has significantly improved conditions across Anambra. Whoever dares challenge it will face consequences,” Mefor warned.

The state government reassured residents that the fight against criminality would not waver, and justice for Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi and his family remains a top priority.
