Mike Okoro remanded for alleged defilement of a nine-year-old girl in Ekiti, as court awaits DPP’s advice before trial begins

Mike Okoro remanded by an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday over the alleged defilement of a nine-year-old girl.

Okoro, 45, was arraigned by the police but his plea was not taken. Prosecutor Inspector Abiodun Bamidele told the court that the incident occurred on September 3 in Ijesha Isu-Ekiti.

According to Bamidele, the defendant allegedly lured the minor, who was running an errand for her mother, and sexually assaulted her. The child later confided in her mother, leading to Okoro’s arrest.

The prosecutor requested the defendant’s remand, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), stressing that the offence violates Section 31 of the Ekiti State Child Rights Law, 2021.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered Okoro’s remand at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre and directed that the case file be forwarded to the DPP. The matter was adjourned until October 10 for mention.
