Naomi Olayinka, 16, of Chrisland Schools, is Top in the World in IGCSE English as a Second Language, continuing a proud school legacy

Following in the footsteps of 2023 alumna Mmesomachukwu Okonkwo of VGC campus, 16-year-old Naomi Olayinka of Chrisland Schools has been named Top in the World in English as a Second Language in the 2024 Cambridge IGCSE examinations.

Naomi’s achievement reaffirms Chrisland Schools’ commitment to nurturing confident, world-class scholars and continues a proud legacy of excellence.

Speaking about her success, Naomi said:

“Honestly, I was speechless at first. When I realised what it meant, I felt so grateful to God, my teachers, my parents, and everyone who supported me. It was surreal, and all I could think about was how the hard work paid off.”

She added that seeing previous students achieve similar feats gave her confidence and motivation:

“Chrisland has always inspired us to aim for excellence. I hope my success encourages others as well.”

Naomi maintained a consistent routine, dedicating daily time to reading, essay writing, and past question practice. She also read novels, articles, and newspapers to expand her vocabulary.

Feedback from teachers and peer support were key to her growth, alongside careful time management and participation in leadership roles such as being a prefect.

“Balancing subjects and responsibilities was challenging, but I learned to take things one step at a time. Prayer and support from my family and teachers gave me strength,” Naomi said.

Her parents provided unwavering encouragement, monitoring her progress while reminding her to rest and care for herself.

Chrisland’s structured support system, including mentoring and the Pastoral Care System (‘The Teacher-Parenting Scheme’), also helped Naomi build resilience, integrity, and community spirit.

Naomi hopes to become a lawyer and make a meaningful societal impact. Her advice to fellow pupils:

“Stay consistent, listen to your teachers, and never underestimate the power of hard work and prayer. Don’t compare yourself to others; keep growing and believe in your potential.”

Mrs Ayoola Akinyeye, Director of Schools at Chrisland, attributed Naomi’s success to purposeful learning, passionate teachers, and a culture that values curiosity, confidence, and disciplined effort.
