Napoli are reportedly in advanced talks with Manchester United over the transfer of Victor Osimhen, offering a potential discount on his release clause

Napoli director Giovanni Manna has travelled to London to engage in advanced discussions with Manchester United officials regarding the transfer of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

Reports from Il Mattino suggest Napoli are willing to offer United a reduced fee on Osimhen’s €75m (£64m) release clause, in an effort to avoid strengthening their Serie A rivals, particularly Juventus.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is expected to leave Napoli permanently this summer, following unsuccessful attempts to secure transfers to Saudi Arabia and Chelsea last year.

Napoli’s willingness to negotiate a lower fee with Premier League clubs highlights their strategic approach to the player’s departure.

Il Mattino reported that Juventus are also interested in Osimhen, but “It is certainly complicated to deal with Juventus… the problem is the frostiness between (Juventus sporting director Cristiano) Giuntoli and the blue club.”

Manchester United, keen to bolster their attacking options after a season of underwhelming goalscoring, have reportedly identified Osimhen as their top target.

Transfer insider Rudy Galetti indicates that Osimhen is open to a move to Old Trafford, despite the club’s current challenges and potential absence from European football next season.

While Chelsea also held talks with Manna, they are reportedly prioritising a move for Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation closely.

The existing positive relationship between Napoli and Manchester United, established during Scott McTominay’s transfer, could facilitate smoother negotiations for Osimhen.

The Nigerian striker has impressed during his loan spell at Galatasaray, scoring 28 goals in 32 appearances, and is currently focused on securing the Super Lig and Turkish Cup titles.
