NCS senior appointments approved as the Board confirms 13 top roles and grants 10 special promotions to enhance leadership and operational efficiency

The Nigeria Customs Service Board, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, has confirmed 13 NCS senior appointments and approved 10 special promotions in a sweeping administrative restructuring aimed at strengthening leadership and boosting operational efficiency.

The Board announced five Deputy Comptroller-Generals, naming Baba Imam for the North East, Isah Umar and Tijjani Abe for the North West, Timi Bomodi for the South South, and Oluyomi Adebakin for the South West.

Their confirmation follows the recent retirement of several senior officers and is expected to reinforce high-level decision-making across Customs formations.

Eight officers were also elevated to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General.

Those confirmed include C. G. Ogbonna for the South East, I. Abba-Aji for the North East, G. M. Haruna and E. J. Edelduok for the South South, G. Gaura and I. Isyaku for the North West, M. S. Shuaibu for the North Central, and M. D. Malah for the North East.

The Board added an extra layer of recognition by granting 10 special promotions to officers deemed to have demonstrated exceptional professionalism and service delivery. A. C. Fanyam and G. M. Shidali were promoted to Comptroller of Customs, while S. Omofoma, O. A. Oladepo, A. Y. Musa, A. Ogboru and A. A. Maiwada advanced to Deputy Comptroller of Customs. C. N. Essien and H. Aliyu moved up to Assistant Comptroller, and A. S. Shofadekan secured promotion to Deputy Superintendent.

The Board stated that the promotions honour officers whose work has significantly improved revenue generation, operational coordination, and national security.

It added that the sweeping changes form part of a broader strategy to enhance succession planning, elevate staff morale, and build a more agile and future-focused Customs Service.

Wale Edun said the decisions demonstrate the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions and deepening accountability within strategic economic agencies.
