In a statement on Friday, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed that repair works have reached an advanced stage and train services will return “in the shortest possible time.”

The Warri-Itakpe train services were suspended in April after engineers detected a fault on the corridor that persisted despite earlier fixes. Experts advised a full suspension to allow urgent maintenance to guarantee passenger safety and system reliability.

“We are pleased to inform the public that work on the affected sections is nearing completion. A formal announcement will soon be made to communicate the specific date for resumption of services,” Unyimadu said.

The NRC expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience during the disruption and assured the public of its commitment to safe, reliable, and comfortable rail transport nationwide.

The Warri-Itakpe corridor remains one of the most vital rail links in Nigeria, connecting multiple states and supporting both passenger travel and economic activity. The return of services is expected to ease the burden on travelers and boost commerce in the region.
