Obidient Movement Sego threat sparks outrage as group urges Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu to arrest NURTW boss for allegedly threatening anti-APC voters in Lagos

Obidient Movement Sego threat has stirred anger across Nigeria after the movement called on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and security agencies to arrest and prosecute Adekunle Mustapha, popularly known as Sego, the Lagos State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The movement accused Sego of threatening to kill anyone who votes against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos during the 2027 elections, describing his statement as “a dangerous assault on democracy.”

In a viral video circulating online, Sego was heard issuing the death threat to potential opposition voters — a remark that has since drawn widespread condemnation.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, the Obidient Movement said the video proves that the APC is resorting to intimidation tactics ahead of future elections because it lacks genuine public support.

“The attention of the Obidient Movement has been drawn to comments by the Lagos NURTW Chairman, Adekunle Mustapha, aka Sego, who threatened to kill anyone who votes against the APC in Lagos during the next elections,” Yunusa said.

He recalled the violence allegedly orchestrated by NURTW members and political thugs during the 2023 elections, which targeted supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

“Those threats and acts of violence were desperate attempts by the APC, which knows it cannot win free and fair elections in Lagos. These threats are a continuation of that same pattern of intimidation,” the statement read.

The group accused the APC of enabling a culture of political thuggery, extortion, and violence, often linked to transport union activities in the state.

Calling for immediate government action, Yunusa urged President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, the DSS, and the Police to arrest and prosecute Sego and others responsible for politically motivated violence.

“The President bears historical responsibility for this development,” the statement continued. “We are demanding immediate arrest and prosecution of Sego and his collaborators.”

The movement also appealed to the international community to take note of the threats, describing them as “crimes against humanity and a danger to Nigeria’s fragile democracy.”

As calls for Sego’s arrest grow, security agencies have yet to issue an official response to the allegations, raising concerns among residents and civil society groups over the safety of voters ahead of the next general elections.
