Ogudu–Ifako Bridge repairs Lagos resume this Wednesday as government rolls out alternative routes and traffic management plans for inbound Island motorists

Ogudu–Ifako Bridge repairs Lagos resume on Wednesday as the second phase of rehabilitation works gets underway, the state government announced via a statement signed by Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Tuesday.

The repairs affect the inbound section of the bridge heading to Lagos Island, and the state has released a traffic advisory offering alternative routes for motorists.

According to the Lagos Ministry of Transportation:

• Motorists from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway or Toll Gate heading to Oshodi should use the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road inward Anthony (by Taxi Park).
• Those heading to Victoria Island can also go through Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road, continue through Town Planning Way, on to Gbagada, and access Third Mainland Bridge.
• Motorists from Ikeja and environs are advised to proceed through Maryland, connect Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, and take the Eko Bridge to Outer Marina.

Commissioner Osiyemi emphasized that the partial closure is part of an ongoing maintenance programme following a review of traffic conditions experienced during the first phase.

“The partial closure of the bridge is a necessary part of the maintenance programme,” Osiyemi stated. “Motorists are urged to bear with the temporary inconvenience in the interest of improved road infrastructure.”

The Lagos State Government is urging commuters and transporters to:

• Plan journeys in advance
• Follow alternative routes diligently
• Maintain lane discipline
• Cooperate with traffic officers on the ground

“We appeal to motorists to cooperate with Traffic Management Officers,” Osiyemi added. “The updated traffic plan aims to reduce the gridlock observed during the initial closure.”

The repair project is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure  Office of Infrastructure, to enhance road safety, extend the lifespan of bridges, and ease mobility across the state.

Though temporary inconveniences are expected, officials maintain that the long-term benefits  including smoother commutes and improved infrastructure  far outweigh the disruptions.
