Ondo police officer stabbed to death in Akure as two suspects face arrest; authorities confirm investigation into the fatal attack

A tragic incident occurred in Akure on Wednesday when an Ondo police officer stabbed by suspected thugs died from his injuries. The attack happened near the Arakale area of the state capital while the officer was on lawful duty.

According to initial findings, an argument reportedly broke out between the officer and the suspects before the confrontation quickly escalated.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ondo Command, Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and clarified that it occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, contrary to claims circulating on social media.

Ayanlade said the officer encountered a hostile group and what began as a routine interaction suddenly turned violent. One of the suspects stabbed the officer, leaving him critically wounded.

Emergency services were immediately contacted, and police personnel were deployed to restore order and track down those responsible.

Two suspects, identified as twenty-five-year-old Shina Jacob and thirty-two-year-old Felix Olalekan, were subsequently arrested. The officer was rushed to hospital but died despite efforts by medical professionals to save his life.

The PPRO described the death as a painful loss to the Command, noting that the officer died in the line of duty while protecting lives and property.

He added that investigations were ongoing and assured that the suspects would be prosecuted once the case was concluded.

Ayanlade also cautioned the public against spreading false or exaggerated information that could cause unnecessary panic.

He maintained that while the police would not shield any officer who engages in misconduct, attacks on law enforcement personnel performing legitimate duties would attract severe legal consequences.
