A Chicago judge denies R. Kelly’s emergency motion for release, rejecting claims of prison conspiracy and threats to his life as legally baseless

R Kelly release motion has been denied by a federal judge in Chicago, following explosive claims by the disgraced singer’s legal team alleging a conspiracy by prison authorities to endanger his life while in custody.

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Martha Pacold dismissed the motion, citing a lack of jurisdiction as the central reason. Kelly, who is currently incarcerated at FCI Butner in North Carolina, had filed the motion from outside the Chicago judicial district.

“Kelly has not demonstrated a legal basis for this court’s jurisdiction. Accordingly, his emergency motion … is denied,” the judge ruled.

Kelly’s legal team had alleged that officials at the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Centre previously conspired with a former cellmate to intercept and share the singer’s legal documents with prosecutors ahead of his trial.

More alarmingly, they claimed that staff at his current facility tried to recruit an Aryan Brotherhood member to assassinate him and administered a life-threatening overdose before removing him from hospital care against medical advice.

Despite the dramatic accusations, federal prosecutors rubbished the claims as “baseless and offensive.” They argued that Kelly, now 58, continues to avoid accountability for years of sexually abusing minors and is merely exploiting the court to draw public attention.

The motion even included an unusual appeal for intervention from former President Donald Trump, a request that was never addressed substantively by the court.

Kelly is serving a 30-year sentence following his 2021 conviction in New York for racketeering and sex trafficking. He was later convicted in 2022 on separate child pornography charges in Chicago. The sentences mostly run concurrently, and his projected release date remains December 21, 2045.

The court’s rejection of his emergency request reaffirms that legal manoeuvres alleging broad conspiracies without jurisdictional merit will not succeed. For now, Kelly’s legal battles continue behind bars, with little indication that his pleas for early release will be entertained.
