Samuel Chukwueze faces uncertainty

Samuel Chukwueze faces uncertainty at AC Milan after a poor season. The club plans to sell him this summer, with Real Betis showing early interest

Samuel Chukwueze faces uncertainty over his future at AC Milan as the Italian giants prepare for a major squad overhaul following a disappointing season that saw them finish eighth in Serie A.

The Nigerian winger has been listed among the players the club is ready to part ways with, having failed to live up to expectations since his arrival from Villarreal.

Chukwueze, 26, joined Milan in the summer of 2023 for €21.1 million plus potential bonuses, but injuries and limited playing time have plagued his time at the San Siro.

The lack of consistent form has led the club to consider offloading him this summer as they seek funds to rebuild the squad.

During the just-concluded 2024/25 campaign, Chukwueze made 26 league appearances but only started nine matches. He managed three goals and two assists—returns that have fallen short of the club’s expectations.

Italian media outlet *La Gazzetta dello Sport* confirmed that he is among the top names on the list of potential departures.

Despite the poor run, Chukwueze may not be short of suitors. Spanish side Real Betis have shown interest in bringing him back to La Liga. However, Milan’s valuation of the winger could prove a stumbling block.

Reports indicate Betis’s offer does not match the fee Milan paid to Villarreal, leaving negotiations at an early stage.

Chukwueze’s options remain open. A return to Spain could revive his career, especially given his history of success with Villarreal, where he won the 2021 UEFA Europa League. The Spanish style of play and familiar environment might suit him better.

Alternatively, he could explore a move to the Premier League. Earlier this year, Fulham were linked with him, although nothing materialised.

A switch to England’s top tier would offer a fresh challenge and potentially more playing opportunities, though no concrete interest has been reignited yet.

Should a move fail to materialise, staying at Milan is also an option, albeit a risky one.

With Massimiliano Allegri returning to manage the team, Chukwueze would have to impress quickly. Reports suggest Allegri may not favour him, but pre-season performances could change that perception.

As the transfer window looms, Chukwueze finds himself at a crossroads. Whether he returns to Spain, tests his chances in England, or fights for redemption in Italy, the coming weeks will be decisive for the former Villarreal star and Nigerian international.
