Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to sign Elliot Anderson, saying he would fit well alongside Kobbie Mainoo in midfield

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United FC to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest FC during the summer transfer window.

Scholes said he would be pleased to see Anderson paired with rising midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in Manchester United’s midfield next season.

The former England international made the remarks while speaking as a guest on TalkSPORT’s morning sports programme.

“I admired him when he was still playing for Newcastle,” Scholes said.

“But my view is that Manchester United need to strengthen with one or two midfielders this summer and cannot just bring in Anderson alone.”

“I would be very satisfied if the midfield next season could be Anderson paired with Mainoo.”

Scholes believes the club must rebuild key areas of the squad ahead of next season, especially in midfield, where changes are expected during the transfer window.

Manchester United are likely to enter the market for a new midfielder with Brazilian veteran Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Anderson, who previously played for Newcastle United before joining Nottingham Forest, has attracted attention for his energy, composure and versatility in midfield.
