The Super Falcons secured a dominant 2-0 victory over Cameroon in a friendly, with Rasheedat Ajibade scoring twice in a strong showing ahead of WAFCON 2025

The Super Falcons victory over Cameroon in a thrilling international friendly on Tuesday night has reinforced Nigeria’s credentials as a major force ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Played at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Nigerian women’s national team delivered a convincing 2-0 win over their fierce rivals, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade was the standout performer, scoring both goals in the first half. She calmly slotted home a penalty in the 28th minute after a Cameroonian handball in the box.

Her second came just before the break — a clinical finish following a well-weighted assist from Omorinsola Babajide in the 43rd minute.

Despite Nigeria’s dominance in the opening 45 minutes, the second half saw a more defensive Cameroonian side limit further chances.

The Lionesses came close to pulling one back in the 87th minute, but Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made a stunning save to preserve the clean sheet.

“It was a great team performance. We are building strong momentum ahead of WAFCON, and it’s encouraging to see the chemistry and drive in the squad,” said coach Randy Waldrum after the match.

This victory comes at a pivotal moment for the Super Falcons, as they gear up for WAFCON 2025 in Morocco, where both Nigeria and Cameroon are expected to be title contenders.

Tuesday’s result is not only a morale booster but also a signal of intent from Nigeria’s most successful women’s football team.
