World Cup Award Winners include Folarin Balogun, Vinícius Júnior and Nestory Irankunda after the opening matches of FIFA 2026

FIFA has unveiled the first set of World Cup Award Winners at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with eight players recognised as Superior Player of the Match following the tournament’s opening round of group-stage fixtures across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The award honours the most influential performer in each match and has already highlighted several standout displays as teams begin their quest for football’s biggest prize.

Among the early recipients is Folarin Balogun, who delivered a commanding performance for the United States in a 4-1 victory over Paraguay in Los Angeles.

The striker scored twice and played a decisive role in helping the Americans secure one of the most convincing wins of the opening week.

Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior was also named among the World Cup Award Winners after starring in Brazil’s 1-1 draw against Morocco in a competitive Group C encounter.

Australia’s Nestory Irankunda joined the growing list of honourees after inspiring the Socceroos to a surprise 2-0 victory over Türkiye.

FIFA will present a total of 104 Superior Player of the Match awards throughout the competition, with the final recipient to be crowned during the World Cup final scheduled for July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium.
