The Dangote Foundation donates rice to 10,000 vulnerable households in Bayelsa State as part of its ongoing national food outreach.

The initiative, flagged off on Tuesday in Yenagoa, seeks to cushion the impact of the economic hardship currently facing the country.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, who was represented by his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, commended the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, for his consistent philanthropic initiatives.

He noted that the foundation’s act of giving was a testament to Dangote’s commitment to alleviating poverty and improving food security in Nigeria.

“The Bayelsa State Government has a very lucrative and viable relationship with the Dangote Group,” Ewhrudjakpo said.

“We want to thank Dangote in the area of being an off-taker for our rice production. We are also looking forward to the issue of building a mill by the farm clusters and settlements.”

He further praised the billionaire philanthropist, saying, “We want to commend Dangote for conquering greed through his philanthropic virtues in the past 30 years. I want to urge us to emulate his acts of giving.”

According to the Head of Operations of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Edero Ejiro, the Dangote Foundation donates rice campaign targets all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

In Bayelsa, the foundation delivered 10,000 bags of 10 kg rice to support vulnerable groups including persons with disabilities, widows, market women, and artisans.

“We are here to present 10,000 bags of 10 kg rice to the people of Bayelsa,” Ejiro said. “The rice distribution is to support and complement the food security initiative that is being put in place by the various state governments.”

He added, “We have seen the template that the state government wants to use to distribute the rice and we are impressed with what we saw. We believe they are going to do a thorough job by distributing the rice to the needy and vulnerable in our midst.”

Also present at the event were persons living with albinism, the blind, the deaf, and other people living with disabilities, all of whom were direct beneficiaries of the initiative.

Ekpomokumor Mayor, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Joint National Association of People With Disability, expressed heartfelt gratitude.

“We thank the Aliko Dangote Foundation for putting food on our tables during this trying time and commend the Bayelsa State Government for ensuring we are included among the beneficiaries,” he said.
