Nasarawa student rape rumour dismissed by police as false. No evidence found after investigation; public urged to avoid spreading unverified information

Nasarawa student rape rumour claims have been firmly denied by the Nasarawa State Police Command following widespread online reports alleging that over 30 female students of the Federal University, Lafia were raped during a supposed bandit attack.

Speaking on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer Ramhan Nansel dismissed the viral reports as false and misleading, emphasizing that no evidence supports the serious allegations.

“Bandits entered into the school and raped over 30 female students? Our findings show the report is not true,” Nansel stated.

He said the police contacted the university’s Chief Security Officer, Information Officer, and several students, none of whom confirmed any rape cases. “If it did happen, students would have raised their voices,” he said.

However, the police confirmed a robbery on July 27 in the Student Village area. Items such as a phone, power bank, and a handbag were stolen, and a male student sustained an injury while trying to flee. No rape was reported in connection with the incident.

Nansel condemned the false narrative as an attempt to incite panic and misinformation. “Over 30 female students raped? Haba! That’s not something anyone would keep silent about,” he said.
