Dangote CNG fuel trucks begin rollout to reduce PMS prices and cut transport costs, saving Nigeria over ₦1.8 trillion annually

Dangote CNG fuel trucks will begin operation across key Nigerian states on Monday, 15th September, in a bold move aimed at cutting fuel distribution costs and slashing pump prices nationwide.

In a statement issued by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, the company confirmed that the rollout is part of its logistics-free distribution programme that will use compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to deliver Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). The new initiative is expected to save the economy over ₦1.8 trillion annually.

As a direct result of this rollout, the gantry price will be reduced to ₦820 per litre, with pump prices in different states varying slightly due to logistics.

Consumers in Lagos and other South-West states will see prices drop to ₦841 per litre, while residents in Abuja, Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Kwara will pay ₦851 per litre.

The first phase of the programme will cover:

•  Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
•  Lagos
•  Kwara
•  Delta
•  Edo
•  Rivers
•  Other South-Western states

A nationwide expansion is planned as more CNG trucks are delivered and deployed.

The Dangote CNG fuel trucks programme is projected to significantly reduce transport-related costs in the petroleum supply chain. The resulting fuel price reductions are expected to:

1.  Ease inflationary pressure
2.  Support over 42 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)
3.  Lower energy costs across commercial sectors

The Dangote Group has invested more than ₦720 billion into this transition, which is expected to revitalise dormant filling stations across Nigeria and inject new life into the petroleum retail sector.

The initiative will also generate direct employment for thousands of Nigerians, particularly in:

•  Truck driving
•  Station management
•  Fuel dispensing operations

The company is urging fuel station operators, telecom companies, and large-scale fuel consumers to collaborate and align with the programme to amplify its impact on national economic recovery.

According to the company’s statement, stakeholder participation will be critical to maximising the economic benefits of the project.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery called on both public and private sector players to partner in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the CNG transition.

The strategic switch to CNG-powered logistics also aligns with global best practices on green energy and is viewed as a significant step towards lower-emission fuel delivery systems.
