Davido’s Enugu concert marred by overcrowding, theft, and harassment, with fans sharing viral videos of chaos at Michael Okpara Square

What was meant to be an electrifying night of Afrobeats at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, on Saturday, November 1, quickly descended into chaos, leaving fans frustrated and distressed.

Reports of overcrowding, theft, harassment, and weak security overshadowed Davido’s “5ive Tour” performance.

The Nigerian superstar had previously announced that his tour would return to the country with stops in Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Enugu, Ibadan, and Lagos.

While the first two legs reportedly went smoothly, the Enugu show attracted widespread criticism.

The concert reportedly drew over 40,000 attendees, nearly double the venue’s 20,000-person capacity, creating confusion and safety concerns.

Fans shared disturbing accounts on TikTok and X, detailing incidents of gate breaches, theft, and harassment.

Many concertgoers said the headline act arrived at around 3 a.m., nearly 12 hours after the scheduled 4 p.m. start, compounding frustrations.

One TikTok user, #adis_beautification, described how ticketless fans gained entry after security failed to control the gates.

“None of them were wearing the tag. Those without a ticket entered; the gate was broken, and the security guards weren’t at the gate. Touts entered. They used razor blades to tear bags,” she said.

Another attendee, #hairz_by_steph, recounted instances of sexual harassment and theft.

“They were pressing girls’ breasts and buttocks. I lost my nails; the crowd was too much. People were entering without tags. A guy was walking around me, looking for something to take,” she said.

TikTok user #mmachukwu described scenes of chaos at the entrance, with security using tasers and canes while fans struggled to move safely through the crowd.

“The stampede was real—gates were forced down, people were falling over each other, and security completely broke down,” she said.

Inside the venue, conditions worsened. Fans faced heat, suffocation, and aggressive crowding, forcing many to retreat toward the fence for air.

Several attendees reported losing personal belongings, including phones, bags, shoes, and wigs, to opportunistic thieves.

Across social media, users criticised the event organisers for inadequate crowd management and poor safety planning, particularly for women.

“It’s 2025 — there’s no excuse. Event organisers must start factoring in the safety and well-being of women at gatherings like this,” wrote #Gidi_Traffic on X.

As of press time, neither Davido nor the concert organisers had issued an official response to the complaints.
