Bremen head coach Horst Steffen disclosed that Boniface sustained the injury during a challenge and is currently undergoing recovery.

The coach added that it remains uncertain if the Nigeria international will feature again before the end of the season.

“It happened in a challenge, knee to knee, and it really hurt,” Steffen said on the club’s official website.

“Unfortunately, the recovery hasn’t been as quick as we’d hoped. I can’t yet say whether he’ll be available for us again this year.”

Boniface, 24, joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window.

The forward has contributed two assists in 11 league appearances for Bremen this season.
