Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior accepts responsibility for Robert Sanchez’s errors in 3‑2 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior accepted accountability for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s mistakes after the Blues lost 3‑2 to Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fell behind early when Sanchez failed to clear Declan Rice’s seventh-minute corner, allowing Ben White to score.

Arsenal doubled their lead shortly after half-time, with Sanchez unable to stop Viktor Gyokeres’ finish.

Martin Zubimendi added a third before substitute Alejandro Garnacho netted twice to keep Chelsea in contention ahead of the return leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Rosenior, overseeing his first home game as Chelsea manager, defended Sanchez, saying the goalkeeper was adjusting to new tactical demands.

“It’s a team goal, it’s not just on Rob. I’m asking Rob to do things he hasn’t done before. When my players make mistakes, I’m accountable. That’s on me,” Rosenior said.

He highlighted Sanchez’s crucial second-half save as evidence of his potential improvement.

The manager also noted that injuries and illness limited his preparation time with the squad, as he had only two days of work with Sanchez before the match.

“That’s Rob’s first game with me. I have to put my imprint on the team. That’s why I’m here,” Rosenior added.
